Fish oil
Hi Helen,
I saw a rhuematologist yesterday (long story) and they're confident I have fibramyalgia triggered by the MS and also think I have a reactive arthritis which would explain a lot of things. They're pretty confident it's not Lupus because the second last flare up was in hospital when I was on IV steroids, and if it was Lupus that would have settled it, not triggered it. They said I fit the bill of a reactive arthritis with my symptoms, so I have to be closely monitored.
Anyway, they talked to me about fish oil yesterday and asked it I took it. I said yes, and they asked what dosage. What I learnt from them yesterday was that in order for the fish oil to have any benefit in arthritis or other autoimmune diseases is that one must be taking at least 1 gram a day. They said anything under that won't have much benefit on the inflammtion side. So I have to take a concentrated fish oil which I bought from chemist warehouse. 5ml equals 4.6g and is extremely high in the good stuff!
So basically the word was taking fish oil is good for overall health, BUT if one is taking it for inflammation it needs to be at a high dose and have a high potency level of the good stuff in it; EPA/DHA ratio.
