An interesting study about combined Calcium and Vit D. Make sure you keep an eye on the amount you take or you might double your risk of heart attack.

Thanks for posting this Anne
Hi Anne,
This brings up something that I was made aware of quite some time ago from one of the Books I read from the US about Vit D. People should not supplement with calcium unless they are menopausal, have had fractures or low bone density - that's my take on it.
I always get my blood calcuim levels checked when I have my Vit D tested. I don't take calcium supplements regularly and haven't done for quite a while given that my previous bone density 3 years ago showed my bones were that of in my 20's, and I just had that repeated 2 weeks ago and not a thing has changed even though I've had plenty of steroids during that period. When I was taking it, I only took one tablet anyway.
What I did learn though was it is wise to take calcium supplements during and after large doses of steroids. Can't remember exactly now why, but that was also in the same book if I recall correctly. Plus there was also something about taking high doses of Vit D on its own and being careful about calcium too. I must revisit that book and locate that info. It had to do with the uptake into the body and the role between the two!
People must remember that if they are wanting to to high doses of Vit D that they need to take Vit D alone, not combined with calcium.
thanks Anne
Thanks Anne, I'd had a vague idea from a health retreat I'd been to. I remember the naturopath saying exactly that. Steve
