And the good news is.....

AmberA's picture

A few blogs ago I made mention that my husband Ben had started showing symptoms like my own, we thought he may be going out in sympathy, though things were a little too real.

Today he went off and had an Electromyogram (EMG) test done and MRI scan, also had a truck load of blood tets done the last time he was there 6 weeks ago. The vedict is in, he has been told by my neuro that it is not MS, the MRI has 4 unusual spots on it, and the EMG came back fine. He then went on to suggest that maybe Ben was depressed! He would also like him to get some cardio vascular tests done (as Bens father had a triple bipass at the ripe old age of 37) and his colestrol checked.

Now YAY for the good news Ben doesn't have MS! Cannot begin to tell you how great that news is to us. Do I think Ben is depressed? Well I find it interesting that his symptoms really started to show up soon after my own diagnosis, though I would not called him depressed, maybe stressed and anxious about our future though.

So we will continue with our investigations and see what we find. Neuro has given him a referral to see a nuero-psychologist, and we will head back to the GP for some futher testing.

A little bit of good news..can go a long way to feeling more positive for how the future looks.....

Hey, that's great Amber

Good to hear some good news about your husband. It must ease his mind a great deal too. I wonder if he is having some sympathy pains due to the depression because of your MS. He seems like an empathetic guy to me and sometimes (like men getting pregnancy symptoms) the body just goes along with what his partner is experiencing. You know what I mean Wink ?

He might need a spot of counselling to cope with the issues that MS in the family always represents. It is sometimes fairly hard for people in the family to cope and he might need to learn some coping skills. A psychologist from the MS Society may be helpful because that person is usually more understanding of the issues that carers of people with MS experience.

Cheers,
Jodi.

Good news if it isn't MS. What do they think the spots on the brain are though?

Spots

Thanks for the comments everyone...

Ben and I had a big discussion last night and we can certainly see why he may be feeling stressed and even possibly depressed though we also believe there is something else going on. So will continue to investigate.

The good thing is the nuero hasn't just washed his hands of Ben, he will be seeing him again in 3 months time for review and possibly further testing. Also interestingly is that Ben's dad over the past 12 months has been having weakness in the arm very similiar to Bens and he is seeing more Drs at the moment to try and work out what is going on..so it begs the question could in be cardio vascular disease of some discription and hereditary.

Carrieanne wwhite spots can sometimes show up on MRI's due to migraines and many other reasons. There are only 4 and they are very indistinct and do not corrulate with his symptoms at all.

Still smiling at the good news
