How to send a private message (in preperation for RSVP's for the Melbourne meetup)

Hi everyone in preperation for getting together RSVP's the Melbourne meet up (which should hopefully be up within around 2 days of this blog post) I discovered a bit of confusion as to how to post private messages, and as this is my most preffered way of getting messages I began to think that perhaps a few people here may also have a bit of trouble, so thats why I created a how to guide.
